it's time for another update from our family. Winter finally decided to rear it's snowy head. After an extremely warm October (we were in the mid to high 80's almost the entire month), it snowed the day before Halloween. The snowy weather continued for a week which is very unusual for Utah, usually we get a day or two of storms and then it clears up for a week or so. We had a good 2-3 inches of snow on the ground here and my sister had 6 inches at her place north of us. When it started storming I took Seth out for his first look at snow. He didn't like it when the cold flakes fell on his head and I think he was happy to go back into the warm house afterward. James is excited that it has snowed so that he can go skiing! I wish that it wasn't such an expensive sport so that he could go more frequently. Last winter he was spoiled because he got to go so often while his family was here.

The weekend before Halloween we celebrated the spooky Holiday at my Aunt Johanna's house by having our annual pumpkin carving contest. This year was notable because it was the first Halloween for my cousin Kenny and his wife Angie to spend together and Angie forced my Uncle Richard (the Grinch of all holidays) to carve a pumpkin for the first time. It was funny to hear him moan and complain that he didn't want to do it. Hannah thought that taking out the pumpkin guts was one of the most disgusting things that she ever had to do. She made hilarious faces as she reached into the slimy pumpkin. We had a great time carving pumpkins and having the kids try on their Halloween costumes.

I spent the day before Halloween making caramel apples. I overcooked the first batch of caramel and although it was still edible, it was too hard to eat off of an apple. So I made a second batch that turned out much better. We had caramel in pans and on apples all over the kitchen. I froze all the leftovers for Christmas, it will probably be that long before any of us want to eat that much caramel again.

Halloween night was chilly and snowy! We spent the evening at my parent's house eating warm soups and showing off our costumes. James was Dracula and Seth was his little vampire bat. Everyone thought Seth's costume was adorable and that he looked ultra adorable in it. We took loads of pictures so you can see just how adorable he was from all different angles. It was fun to make his costume, but kind of sad that he will only get to wear it this one time.

November snuck up on us and we can't believe that it is almost halfway over! Nothing extremely exciting has happened this month so far. James won tickets to the premier showing of the new Disney movie 'Brother Bear'. It was entertaining and the moose in the show were hilarious. I have been helping my sister Marrisse make a dress for Sophia for the Christmas grandkids picture that my mom is having taken. James has been bitten by the paintball bug. He and John spent last Saturday paintballing with a few of James' friends. James has spent this week researching paintball guns and has finally chosen the one he likes the best. To his dismay it is a slightly expensive gun and it might be a while before he gets it. I'm sure he'll find a way though! I also spent a day with my sisters and aunts having a 'beauty day'. We did manicures, pedicures and facials. There's a funny picture of me getting a facial with Seth sitting on my lap laughing at how silly I look!

Seth continues to grow and become cuter and cuter everyday. We measured him yesterday and he has grown 3 inches since the end of September. I think that he is working on getting a little taller now, because I don't think his cheeks could get much chubbier. He sat up unsupported for a few seconds on Sunday, which is quite an accomplishment for a 3 month old. He will fight and struggle with us if we put him in a reclining position when he really wants to be upright. He still hates to be on his stomach. We try to give him some 'tummy time' everyday so that he can work his arm muscles and lift his head up, but most of the time he just lays there with his face in the blanket and cries. We are so grateful that he is a part of our lives. I keep looking back at my life before he was born and wonder what I did before he came. I'm glad that James is willing to work and sacrifice so that I can stay home and take care of Seth. I wouldn't want to miss a moment of his development because it seems like every time I turn around he is doing something new.

We hope everyone is doing well and that you are all happy and healthy. We'd also like to congratulate Darren and Margaret on the birth of their new baby. We love you all and pray for you!

Love, Miekka and James
