Just Blogging to Blog

I realized that although I love to read everyone else's blogs, I haven't added anything new to mine for a while.  I even caught myself wasting an hour the other day reading a strangers blog that I stumbled onto from a Google search I was doing.  It was fun to read, but I felt kind of like an eaves-dropper.

So here's what I've been up to lately....

I've been sewing up a storm.  Seth decided to be Optimus Prime for Halloween and Jacob was going to be Darth "Mader" aka Darth Vader, but we tried on the costumes a few weeks ago and Jacob was too afraid of his costume to look in the mirror.  He decided that he definitely did not want to be Darth Mader.  Instead he is going to be the Transformer Bumblebee to go along with Seth's Optimus Prime.  Unfortunately, they don't sell that particular costume in Jacob's size.  I went into Halloween Costume making mode, which seems to take hold of me every September, and started making Jakes a costume.  It turned out pretty cute, it's not as detailed as I wanted it to be but I sort of ran out of steam when my sewing machine started acting up.  It was skipping stitches all over the place and the tension knob doesn't seem to be working.  I've asked James to get it fixed for me for Christmas, because if I'm in charge of getting it repaired it will probably never happen.

The other thing I've been sewing is a Christmas present for Jacob.  He is really into dress-ups right now, he wears his cowboy boots almost every day.  So when my mom asked what she should get for him I told her that he wanted a Firefighter jacket.  We looked around and could only find totally crappy, cheap Halloween type costumes, or ultra-expensive, super-nice dress-up outfits.  I found a pattern for a jacket for 2 bucks and decided I could make something that would be durable enough for dress-up play for less than the cheap Halloween stuff.  I borrowed my sister Amy's sewing machine, found some inexpensive fabric a Walmart, harvested some notions from bags I bought at the D.I. and got to work.  The finished product is adorable!!!  He's going to love it so much.  It's too bad I have to wait 'til Christmas to see it on him.

I've got two more small sewing projects on the table for Christmas and I probably ought to get a few girly receiving blankets and burp cloths ready for the new baby.  All I need is to find some super-cute flannel.

James has been in San Antonio for the last two days visiting his brother Joseph who just graduated from Air Force Basic Training.  I haven't cooked at home since he left, unless you count Macaroni and Cheese.  Our food choices have definitely been kid friendly, mac n cheese, hotdogs, pizza, and McDonalds.  It's a good thing James is coming home tonight.  I need motivation to cook something more nutritious for myself.

I'm going Christmas shopping this afternoon with my mom.  It seems really wierd to be doing it this early, but I think I better get it done now, since my life is going to get slightly more complicated as the year goes on.  Everyone says going from two to three kids is the hardest transition and I don't need to complicate it by having to drag all three of them around various stores at Christmastime.

I had some pictures to go along with this blog, but James took the camera, so I'll post the photos when he gets back.
